Friends of Connetquot's 2008 Gala |
Our
11th Annual Gala will be held at Connetquot State
Park Preserve on Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 1:00
p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This year’s event will feature
exhibits and information on trout fishing and the
importance of protecting the waters of the Connetquot River from pollution.

The Gala is the main fund raiser for our projects in
the Park. Our Grist Mill restoration is still
underway and as expected, we are finding that the
cost exceeds the funds we have raised up to now.
Additionally, we are in the planning stages to
restore the Ice House and convert it into a library
and research center.

You can help us reach our goals by a contribution,
the donation of any prize for the raffle and
auctions held at our Gala event or by advertising in
the Gala brochure that will be distributed to those
attending.

Please join in helping the Park and come to the
festivities—live music, equestrian and other
displays, fabulous food and refreshments in a
beautiful setting.

The Friends think of the Park as a wonderful
treasure and we want to share it with you.

Advertising Opportunity...
Additionally, we will be publishing a Gala brochure
that we think is a great medium for promoting your
business or organization. The proceeds from your
advertisement will help us with our projects, which
serve our community. If you're interested in
advertising in the Gala brochure,
click
here to download and print this form,
containing an introductory letter, information,
contract and advertising rates. The deadline
for submission is August 15, 2008, so don't delay if
you wish to advertise.

Friends of Connetquot's 11th Annual Friends of
Connetquot Fun Trail Ride |
Despite
the unfortunate postponement of the ride on May 4th
[I’ll never listen to the weathermen again] most
everyone showed up the next week on May 11th,
including many more who did not pre-register. The
weather was perfect for a day in the country,
riders, drivers, and hikers all enjoyed the day
tremendously. I don’t know the exact amount
collected today but with over 100 players and many
taking advantage of a yard of raffle tickets for
$20, I’m sure we did well. Many repeat riders, who
come for the food and fun, were joined by new
friends of Connetquot...Click

Help the Friends of Connetquot Raise Funds to Restore the Grist Mill |
The Friends of Connetquot is working with the
State of New York to restore the Grist Mill.
Plans have been prepared and work has started but we
need money to finish the project. We have a special
opportunity thanks to the Gerry Foundation. They
have issued a challenge to raise $40,000 by
October 2007,
which they will match dollar for dollar. This
money will make it possible for the Friends to
finish most of the work on the Mill.

Connetquot is a treasure for lovers of the
outdoors, equestrians, fishermen, hikers,
birdwatchers and families who enjoy the pristine
environment. The Friends have already taken on many
projects large and small, including the fire
suppression for the main building;
restoration of the kitchen; installation of
interpretive signs, a trail marker and new
bridges; and purchasing grooming equipment
for the trails.

The Connetquot Grist Mill is a landmark of the
Preserve and a registered National Historic
structure. It is the only surviving "tub
wheel" mill on the east coast. With your support the
Mill will be preserved for generations to come.

The Friends of Connetquot is a 501c charity and can
receive tax deductible contributions from
individuals and corporations. There are many ways
you can help: Send a contribution, upgrade or
renew your membership, come to the Gala on October
7th, buy some of our logo shirts or bags.
Let’s combine our efforts and make this grant
challenge a reality. We only have until October
to match this $40,000 all or nothing challenge.
