FOC Newsletter, Chairman's Letter,  Fall 2019

Greetings! There is so much happening at Connetquot River State Park Preserve! The Park Staff has been very busy working on the outside of the main building along with the inside. Rita Trapani has been reworking and reframing the photos in the foyer, the staff oiled the walls, cleaned and oiled the floor and it looks great! Soon we will be organizing and restoring the Billiard Room along with creating revolving displays of the former members of the South Side Sportsmen’s Club (the men who helped form the South Shore Gold Coast). New signage has gone up and Sue Wuehler (Park Manager) is working on many new ideas that will be helpful to visitors.

Our Program Chair (Janet Soley) has been booking interesting innovative Lectures and our Publicity Chair (Steve Mendelson) has been diligently working at getting our programs noticed.

Our Annual Fishing Outing is scheduled for Friday, October 11th where men and ladies can enjoy a day of fly fishing with a tasty gourmet lunch catered by the Snapper Inn on the beautiful Connetquot River.

The Path Through History (Oct 12-14) is a showcase of Connetquot’s rich and fascinating history and will feature our main building (the former Snedecor’s Tavern and South Side Sportsmen’s Club), the historic Hatchery, and our recently refurbished Grist Mill.

John Remmer has become our “Mill Master” and has researched and personally restored the inside for many months and has done an awesome job. His work (and we can’t thank him enough) will allow visitors to understand the operation of the 19th century historic Grist Mill.

Our Board is now working on our upcoming Annual Gala (Saturday, November 2nd from 7 PM – 11 PM) at our new venue (Shandon Court in East Islip) where we will have a DJ, some special tunes sung by Tim Huss, great food and fabulous raffle items. This year we will be honoring the former L.I. NYS Parks Regional Director,Wayne Horsley with the 2019 Gil Bergen Preservation Award.

Soon, we will have a beautiful new Donor Board installed in the Administration Building with the names of the many generous people that have donated allowing us to achieve so much through the years.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Friends of Connetquot River State Park Preserve, we look forward to welcoming you to our beloved preserve to attend our Lectures or scheduled events, view the Main Building, Trout Hatchery, Grist Mill or enjoy the 3,473 acres of property!
